Mobile phone use while working has an adverse effect on staff wellbeing.

Despite 47.4% of office workers saying using a mobile device while working would have a significant negative impact on their productivity, over three-quarters of them had used one at some point.

Office workers’ attitudes and practices about working from their mobile phones were investigated by National Business Communications through a survey of office workers.

Almost one-fourth of office workers say they can work at least two days per week from their phone, while the majority of respondents said they had worked from their mobile device despite the drawbacks. However, 66% of those polled said they would only be able to do so for one to seven hours of their working day.

In the poll, office workers were also asked to list the major reasons why they would not use their mobile devices for work:

Larger screens are preferred by them (93.4%)

Simply said, more than half of the respondents dislike working on their phones.

According to 33% of respondents, there aren’t enough useful smartphone apps to carry out their duties.

19.7% of respondents said their boss would not approve.

The study also identified a number of drawbacks, such as a detrimental impact on work-life balance, the possibility for more text and app-related diversions, and a potential shortage of tools and apps that may be needed to execute tasks.

Working from home on our personal mobile phones may undoubtedly disrupt our ability to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Since it’s so simple to check our emails, even after hours, or see notifications come in while we’re offline and distracted, it’s critical to establish limits. Other drawbacks identified by our study included slower typing on mobile devices and the absence of a second or larger screen.
